Introduction

This program is designed for students who wish to pursue leadership roles at the different levels within educational organizations. The candidates will learn to manage organizations and develop solutions to issues in the education field. They will be able to apply research skills in the classroom and institutions and will use latest approaches to education.

Program Objectives

After completing the program, the students will:

  • Create learning opportunities based on the cognitive, social, physical and emotional development of students;
  • Create a classroom environment that expedites learning by engaging students in positive social interaction and active learning;
  • Use different technologies to engage the students in meaningful learning in different subjects;
  • Understand the role of assessment and use formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate student learning;
  • Apply research skills in their teaching and administrative practices.

Program Outcomes

After the successful completion of this program, the candidates can work as:

  • Administrator and Instructional Supervisor.
  • Teacher in Secondary School.
  • Lecturer in Higher Secondary/Inter/Degree College/University.
  • Continue towards, advanced studies in Education.

Admission Eligibility Criteria

  • MA/M.Sc. (Equivalent to 16 years of education) with at least 45% marks or CGPA 2.0 out of 4.

Note

  • Candidates having less than 45% marks will be eligible for admission after successful completion of “Zero  Semester”.

Course Exemption

Course exemption may be allowed as per University regulations on course to course basis to those having HEC recognized one year (30 Credit hours) post-graduate diploma in Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. This course exemption shall not reduce the duration of the study.

Duration

It is a 1.5 years full time study program and is spread over three semesters. Each semester has at least 18 weeks of duration for teaching and examinations etc.

Assessment of Study Progress

The students study progress evaluation mechanism is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), presentations (wherever applicable), mid-term and final-term examinations at VU designated campuses. The mid-term and final-term examinations usually count for 80 to 85% of the total marks for a course.

Teaching Practices/Project/Teaching Internship

Students are required to complete Teaching Practices/Project/Teaching Internship of 6-credit hours during B.Ed. Elementary program. The choice of the final project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the Project and may be required to give a presentation.

Award of Degree

To become eligible for the award of B.Ed. degree in Secondary education, the students enrolled in Spring 2020 and Fall 2021 onwards are required to complete at least 54~55 credit hours with minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 out of 4.00. Whereas, for all previously enrolled batches, the students are required to complete at least 57 credit hours with minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 as approved by the Board of Studies.

Fall 2023 Semester

(Semester/ Classes Commencement Date: October 16, 2023)

 

The link for “Course Selection” will be active/ available w.e.f. Tuesday, October 3, 2023 under “Student Services” tab in VULMS. The students are advised to log-in to their VULMS account and select their course(s) immediately or before the semester commencement date. However, last date to add/drop course(s) will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Tuition fee voucher issued after this date shall not be revised.

Important Notes:

  1. Newly admitted students, enrolled in the 1st semester of their respective study program, are given pre-selected courses. However, students enrolled through BS Entry Route may select their courses, accordingly.
  2. Existing/ continuing students must make their course selection as mentioned above. Failing to enroll any course(s) he/she will be treated as “INACTIVE STUDENT” during the semester and a fine will also be imposed under “Semester Freeze Rules”.
  3. Course/ work load (Credit Hours) limits have been prescribed and published separately for each study program in “Course Selection Rules” in given “Student Handbook”. Students must read the rules carefully before making their course selection.

Guidelines/Explanations:

  • Students are expected to follow thesemester wise study scheme” of their respective study program so that their scholarship eligibility may not effect (See Scholarship Rules). 
  • Continuously enrolling maximum course/work load in each semester does not mean that a study program can be completed earlier than its minimum prescribed residential requirement.
  1. Course Pre-requisite rule requires enrollment and qualifying of Basic/Introductory courses before enrolling an advanced level course. Therefore, said rule must be followed and given due care while making course selection.
  2. Students enrolled during Spring 2018 / Fall 2018 / Spring 2019 are NOT allowed to make their course selection; as they have availed maximum time duration along with the grace period to complete their study program.
  3. Students with blocked VULMS (due to non-payment of fee) will not be allowed to make their course selection, unless they deposit their outstanding dues and get their LMS accounts active from Accounts Department.
  4. Grade Improvement Policy A student can anytime improve a course in which his/her obtained low grades published in the Student Handbook under Course Selection Rules for each program. In such a case he/she has to repeat the improvement course(s) in the forthcoming semester(s), in which that course is offered.

Guidelines/Explanations:

  • Failed course(s) can be repeated until qualified.
  • Improved/better grade of a course will substitute/replace the previous/lower grade and eventually increase the CGPA. However, in case of non-improvement of grade, the previous better grade will stand and counted towards CGPA calculation. According to University grade improvement policy. In any of the subsequent semesters a student may repeat once those course(s) of the previous semester(s) in which he/she had secured the lowest grade only, before completion of entire course work program and mark pass out.
